Hi, I’m Dan Crane. I’m a training specialist here at YRCI. I’d like to take a moment to talk about how we design our training here and why I have been an unwilling participant in many corporate trainings and lectures that have lasted for hours on end.
And that’s a real problem, only one person talking for entirely too long. Studies suggest that student attention spans and lectures start to decline after just 10 to 15 minutes. So how, then, do we create trainings that make a difference and have substance without wasting the participant’s valuable time?
We’ve learned that micro-learning two to five-minute segments can facilitate the movement of learned material from short-term to long-term memory and can be used to increase retention and learners by having users continually rehearse the content. Research suggests that distributed practice, spreading learning over time, has more effect than masked practice or cramming. That’s right, it didn’t work in college, and it doesn’t work now.
So at YRCI we’ve taken this research to heart. Our training approach includes on demand e-learning courses, self-paced modules broken into concise, manageable segments and virtual instructor LED courses. Live online sessions are limited to a reasonable duration, most coming in at about two hours. By offering a mix of on-demand and live virtual training, we combat our natural tendency to forget.
While catering to different learning styles and schedules, our on-demand e-learning courses offer ultimate flexibility. Employees can access these courses anytime, anywhere, using any device. These on-demand courses feature interactive modules with quizzes and simulations, progress tracking, and downloadable resources for offline review.
Our virtual instructor LED courses provide real-time interaction with our subject matter experts, collaboration and breakout rooms for peer learning and screen sharing, and virtual whiteboards for enhanced explanations.
Effective training doesn’t have to be long; it just has to be smart. By leveraging research-backed methods and diverse delivery formats, we’re making every minute count, clear, and concise. Thank you for your time.
